Surf Box House

An Interwar semi in Maroubra, the clients’ brief was to accommodate 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and an open-plan kitchen, dining, living spaces, with minimal extension into the garden. With a narrow block of 303 square metres facing south, a key concern was bringing more daylight inside. Our redesign retained the existing front rooms and primary roof, while adding a separate rear pavilion, separated by a small courtyard, which breathes light and air into both old and new sections.
